![]() ![]() He won’t delay beyond the time He has appointed. Nevertheless, although God is merciful and loving, He is a fierce Judge. It is God giving more time so that more people would come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ the Saviour and be saved. Evidently, therefore, what people call delay is actually God’s longsuffering and forbearance toward us all. John 3:16 expresses God’s infinite love for humanity: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Christ’s vicarious death on the Cross was to reconcile humanity with God and bring us into an eternal relationship with Him. God has no delight in the death of sinners. ![]() Rather, this perceived ‘delay’ reveals His love for the world and His desire that everyone should repent and be saved from the judgment to come. What this group of people – and many others like them – are ignorant of is that “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 This means that contrary to what some people think, the Lord hasn’t forgotten about His promise to return, and He’s not late with His promise to bring an end to this evil world. They boast that with their words they get what they want, say what they wish, and no one can stop them or ever call them to account. They deride the message of Christ’s Second Coming and the impending judgment of God on this sinful world, and publicly oppose God in their conversations and lifestyles.Īs the Bible describes it in Psalm 12:4, they arrogantly declare that their mouth is theirs. As the Apostle Peter predicted in his second epistle, numerous scoffers have emerged in our world today who laugh at sin and make a mockery of the Gospel. ![]()
